Content & Key Areas.

The “Empathic Design & Innovation” course addresses this very issue and focuses on developing innovative solutions and realistic concepts. This allows users to be observed in their actual usage environments and daily routines in order to gain a realistic understanding of, for example, their needs, experiences, and emotions.

At the Empathic Design Lab, you’ll learn through hands-on experience how to respond to potentially critical customer needs. From theoretical knowledge to practical application in the workshop playground, you’ll gain a comprehensive understanding of the creative innovation methods Design Thinking and Empathic Design. Through Strategic Thinking and Ideation, you’ll develop a strategic mindset that embraces agility, flexibility, and adaptability.

Today, long-term planning is no longer the key to success. The ever-accelerating pace of change demands strategic skills—the ability to make quick decisions, evaluate trade-offs, and identify the best solution for success. Real-world cases are addressed in collaboration with experienced experts, and proven methods such as LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® support the creative process of developing product concepts.

Skills.

As a participant, you willgainhands-on experience withthe subprocesses ofDesign Thinking and Empathic Design and learn to apply them in a results-oriented manner.

Another key focus of the program is the so-calledEmpathic Design Lab. In this lab, you’ll learn to understand people’s needs, emotions, and experiences during the first phase of the innovation process, thereby laying the foundation for relevant solutions. This also involves planning surveys and evaluating the results. In this way, you’ll develop the ability to identify aspects that are both relevant and meaningful to users.

What makes Design Thinking and Empathic Design unique is that users are observed in their actual usage environments and daily routines, or you step into the users’ shoes to gain a realistic understanding. This requiresspecialized methodsthat go beyond data collection, market research, and consumer research.

In addition, after completing the course, you will be ableto qualitatively test andevaluateconcepts or solutions with users and thenstrategically assess their potential. To this end, you will learn how to conduct user workshops in a results-oriented manner.

As a future Empathic Design Specialist, you’ll be empowered to further develop your own creative mindset. You’ll learn creative methodsthat will enable youto lead interdisciplinary innovation teams with the goal of developing solutions that gain a stronger foothold because they’re more relevant than competing offerings.
