The FERNFH Faculty Council is responsible for ensuring and further developing academic quality. It designs degree programs, supports innovative teaching and learning formats, promotes research, and ensures academic quality. It is also responsible for the implementation and organization of academic and examination operations, as well as for transparency in all university processes.

About the Faculty

The Faculty Council is responsible for academic matters and decisions at FERNFH. Together with the program directors, it is responsible for the implementation and organization of teaching and examinations, as well as for quality assurance in teaching and research at FERNFH. Together with the sponsoring body, it ensures compliance with the quality assurance provisions of the Higher Education Quality Assurance Act (HS-QSG) to maintain our accreditation. In addition, the College’s leadership is responsible for conferring academic degrees.

The faculty was first established at FERNFH in the winter semester of 2012–13. It is re-elected every three years.

Legal Basis & Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Faculty Council and its leadership are set forth in Section 10 of the University of Applied Sciences Act (FHG). This legal framework governs the responsibilities and organization of the Faculty Council.

Duties of the Faculty

The board's most important responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring and Enhancing Academic Quality: The FERNFH Faculty ensures that all degree programs meet the university’s high academic and professional standards. It develops academic and examination regulations, monitors the quality of teaching and research, and ensures their continuous improvement.
  • Design of Academic Programs: Together with the governing body, the FERNFH faculty plans and approves new degree programs and university courses, or adapts existing programs to current developments.
  • Coordination of Academic Programs: The faculty coordinates the academic and organizational aspects of the degree programs to ensure a consistent and high-quality educational experience.
  • Adoption of the FERNFH Bylaws: To ensure that the tasks, processes, and decisions of the university of applied sciences have a clear and binding framework for all stakeholders, the FHG provides for the adoption of bylaws covering several subject areas.
  • Strategic Development of the University: In collaboration with the governing body, the faculty contributes to the university’s long-term academic and international direction.

Structure of the Faculty

The faculty is composed of representatives from various academic fields. The faculty includes:

Members of the Faculty

The term of office for the Board and its leadership is three years. The current term runs from 2025 to 2027. Board members are elected at regular intervals in accordance with the Board’s election regulations.

Working Committees

The Faculty may establish various working committees to address specific issues and assist in carrying out its responsibilities. These committees consist of faculty members and other experts and address specific topics. The following standing working committees are currently active at FERNFH:
