Courses that demonstrate instructors’ distance learning expertise in a particularly creative way are awarded a prize of up to €1,000.
Purpose of the Teaching Award
Promoting Teaching Quality at FERNFH
The award is based on theprinciples of good teachingand is presented to courses that demonstrate innovation and high quality. The main criteria include:
- Removing Barriers to Education (Teaching Award Focus Area 2025)
Learning conditions that promote the removal of individual and structural barriers and ensure equal opportunity in higher education. - Academic and pedagogical quality
Creative presentation of course content based on the latest scientific and technological developments in the respective discipline. - Innovation
: Use of new teaching technologies and creative use ofthe online campusto supportlearning outcomes (e.g., through podcasts, videos, and web conferences). - Interpersonal and Social Skills
Promoting respectful and appreciative communication between faculty and students. - Gender- and diversity-sensitive teaching
Taking gender and diversity aspects into account when designing instruction and teaching materials. - Motivation and Independence
Promoting independence and critical reflection among students. - Knowledge Transfer and Practical Relevance
Applying what has been learned in other contexts, as well as ensuring that the course content has clear practical relevance.

Workplace Health Promotion (DWH601)The course “Workplace Health Promotion,” taught for the first time by Lukas Küster in the 2025 summer semester, has been awarded first place place in the Werner Jungwirth Teaching Award for Excellence in Distance Learning, as it offers a competency-based teaching and learning design with a strong theory-to-practice transfer, takes into account the diversity of students in terms of prior knowledge, professional experience, and learning needs, provides accessible learning materials, and enables students to incorporate their own professional contexts into group work.

, Performance & Compensation Management (HRM5)Sabine Indinger’s course “Performance & Compensation Management” has been awarded second place in the Werner Jungwirth Teaching Prize for Excellence in Distance Learning because it employs a pedagogical approach that promotes personal reflection, in-depth engagement, and peer exchange; breaks down educational barriers; enables flexible learning through modular materials and a variety of media; and takes into account structural and personal obstacles such as work commitments, lack of time, or uncertainties, and lowers barriers to entry through inclusive language and clearly defined technical terms.

Demography & Epidemiology (ME222)Sophie Psihoda’s course “Demography & Epidemiology” has been awarded third place in the Werner Jungwirth Teaching Prize for Excellence in Distance Learning because it presents a complex topic in a pedagogically sound manner with a variety of support materials, creates a playful approach through custom-developed edu-games, and has received overwhelmingly positive evaluations and feedback from students.
