Your everyday life isn't run-of-the-mill. Neither is our degree program.

What to Expect—and What Not to Expect
We won't promise you that it will always be easy. You'll have to juggle your schedule, sleep, and study time. But in return, we'll give you a degree program that's easy to plan for: our unique distance learning model—a system that gives you flexibility and puts people by your side who understand you.
In-person sessions will be announced in advance.
A degree program that mostly adapts to your life—not the other way around.
If things don't work out, you don't have to give up.
We communicate openly and find solutions when things get tough.
Breaks for breastfeeding are also permitted during written exams—this is stipulated in our academic and examination regulations.
A space for you and your family: featuring family rooms, diaper-changing stations, and nursing areas right on campus.
You're not alone
Many people take this path—together.
Many of our students have children or other caregiving responsibilities. That changes everything, and that’s exactly what our distance learning program is designed for. Because you don’t need anyone to “feel sorry” for you—you need a learning environment that understands your everyday life and can adapt flexibly:
That’s why, for example, our study groups are designed to be considerate and to facilitate collaborative learning in a supportive environment. Our study formats are also structured to help you progress without overwhelming you. And if you need a break, that’s no problem here. We intentionally make room for that with our distance learning model, which includes a high proportion of online components and allows you to manage your time flexibly. We’re also certified as family-friendly. You can find more information on our website under “College and Family.”

College and Family
We are certified as a family-friendly university. But for us, that’s more than just a label. It means that we don’t view balancing family life and studies as an exception, but as part of our DNA.
You can be sure that we understand you and will give you the space you need to successfully balance your studies and your family life.
Practical Tips for Studying While Raising a Child
There's no such thing as a perfect plan, but there are a few things that can help you get started. These tips will help you plan realistically and make the most of your college experience.
Plan ahead and don't rush: Keep in mind that you should set aside enough time for your family and your studies.
Think about how you can balance your academic responsibilities with your study time: our flexible academic structure and academic advising are here to help you.
Seek advice: If you have any questions about balancing your studies and family life, we're here to help.
You don't have to do everything at once: You can structure your studies to fit your needs.
It's okay to take detours: Your life's journey isn't always a straight line—and that's perfectly fine.
At FERNFH, you'll get what you need:
Space, structure, understanding.
Our distance learning model is designed to allow you to balance your studies with your family responsibilities. It’s flexible in terms of time, location-independent, and well-structured. The few in-person sessions can be planned well in advance, and—depending on your degree program or course—you’ll complete most of your assignments and exams online. You can maintain your daily routine while still making progress.
