On Your Own Terms to Graduation

Accessible Higher Education

At FERNFH, we believe that education should not be a matter of privilege. It should not be hindered by a lack of mobility, chronic illness, or a lack of accessibility. Every person has the right to knowledge, personal development, and self-determination—regardless of physical, sensory, or mental limitations.

Distance learning at FERNFH.

Here's how our academic model works.

Our degree programs and continuing education opportunities in the FERNFH study model open up new paths. They offer the flexibility that makes it easier for many people with disabilities or chronic illnesses to pursue higher education and achieve their personal goals. We don’t see your disability first; we see you as a person with goals. And we do everything we can to help you find your own path to achieving them.
Your Path to College
accessible and flexible

Flexible distance learning —study almost entirely from anywhere, at your own pace, and on your own schedule.

A few, predictable in-person sessions— depending on the program—at our accessible campus in Wiener Neustadt or online via live sessions.

Accessible course materials —ongoing improvements to our digital offerings on the Online Campus, alternative formats, and screen-reader-compatible materials.

Customized accommodations for exams —which you are legally entitled to, such as extended time, alternative exam formats, or technical assistance.

Personalized Counseling – We’ll work with you to find solutions when you need a more personalized approach.

Studying with Chronic Illnesses

Not every barrier is visible. We are also happy to provide individualized support to students dealing with mental health challenges, chronic illnesses, or neurodivergent backgrounds—as they work toward earning their degree.

Have you encountered any barriers?

Let us know.

Precisely because we want to make education accessible to everyone, we’d appreciate it if you ’d let us know about any barriers you encounter—whether regarding access to our programs, our content, on-site at the FERNFH campus, or when using our digital platforms. We welcome your feedback, whether you’re interested in studying with us, are currently applying, or are already a student here.

Your feedback will be received by our Equality, Gender, and Diversity Officers, Astrid Braun and Nicole König, and will be treated confidentially.

Here's how studying works at our school.
