Project E-Accessibility at the FernFH

One of the most important goals that the FernFH has pursued since its foundation is to break down educational barriers and give as many people as possible access to a study programme. Within the framework of the E-Accessibility project, processes and measures have been implemented to increase the accessibility of online content.

How important it is to the FernFH to reduce educational barriers is already shown by the fact that this is anchored in the university development plan and in the values of the FernFH. People with different learning conditions and opportunities should have the same chances as everyone else to complete a high-quality academic education.

Within the framework of the E-Accessibility project, the Online Campus, the study booklets and the FernFH website, the building and internal processes were closely examined. After an analysis phase, instructions for the creation of barrier-free documents and recommendations for the barrier-free design of online courses were developed and a guideline for diversity-compatible teaching was made available to the teaching staff. In addition, processes for the revision of study booklets were defined, as these are adapted to the individual needs of the students.

"For us, it is a matter of continuously expanding the activities to increase accessibility in teaching and administration, of systematically thinking about the topic in all processes and of stimulating and implementing measures", emphasises project manager Christa Walenta, deputy head of academic board. The results achieved in the project year are a solid basis for a continuous development in the sense of equal opportunities and inclusion.
