Admission requirements
You must meet certain requirements in order to start a bachelor degree programme, master degree programme or certificate programme at FernFH. Details on the requirements are presented below:
Bachelor
In general, you must meet one of the following requirements to study for a bachelor’s degree:
- General university entrance qualification, attested by
- an Austrian university entrance certificate or a general university entrance qualification certificate
- a corresponding university entrance examination certificate
- a foreign certificate equivalent to one of these Austrian certificates
- a certificate of completion of at least three years of study at a recognised national or foreign post-secondary educational institution
OR
- A relevant professional qualification (plus additional tests*):
A vocational qualification is either a completed apprenticeship in a profession relevant to the subject or the completion of a vocational secondary school course lasting at least three years. The “relevance” will be decided on a case-by-case basis as part of the admissions procedure.
*Additional tests:
- Proof of knowledge of the English language:
- at the level “Modern Foreign Languages 2” within the framework of a university entrance examination certificate or
- a certificate at level B2 of the European Reference Framework or
- Cambridge Certificate “BEC Vantage” or “First Certificate in English” (FCE) or
- TOEFL test (IBT 83 / CBT 220 / PBT 560) or
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS, academic module, band score 6.0)
- Proof of knowledge of english at the level “Modern Foreign Languages 2” – A free preparatory course for the qualification examination “Modern Foreign Languages 2” is available on our Public Campus.
- Proof of knowledge of mathematics at the level “Mathematics 1” – A free preparatory course for the qualification examination “Mathematics 1” is available on our Public Campus.
If additional examinations are necessary, these can also be taken directly after successful completion of the admissions procedure as part of the study programme within the framework of free qualification examinations.
Master
To be able to complete an in-depth master degree programme at FernFH, you must meet the following requirements:
- A completed and relevant bachelor’s degree.
Relevant bachelor degree programmes are bachelor degree programmes in the fields of social sciences, economics and psychology.

OR
- An equivalent degree awarded by a recognised national or foreign post-secondary educational institution.
Equivalent degrees awarded by recognised national or foreign post-secondary educational institutions are studies with subject-related orientation obtained from an educational institution to which the conditions for admission are the general university entrance qualification and which are recognised as a post-secondary educational institution under the legislation of the state in which it is registered.
- The following minimum level of professional competence in the core subjects of economics and psychology is required:

15 ECTS in the fields of “general business administration/human resources/management/organisation/strategic management/corporate management/finance/accounting/marketing management”

15 ECTS in the fields of “business psychology/personal psychology/general psychology/social psychology/personality psychology/psychological diagnostics”
-
4 ECTS in the field of “empirical social research & statistics”

To be able to complete a consecutive master degree programme at FernFH, you must meet the following requirements:
- A completed and relevant bachelor’s degree.
Relevant bachelor degree programmes are bachelor degree programmes in the fields of economics and engineering.

OR
- An equivalent degree awarded by a recognised national or foreign post-secondary educational institution.
Equivalent degrees awarded by recognised national or foreign post-secondary educational institutions are studies with subject-related orientation obtained from an educational institution to which the conditions for admission are the general university entrance qualification and which are recognised as a post-secondary educational institution under the legislation of the state in which it is registered.

Certificate programmes
To be admitted to the certificate programme Evaluation in the Health, Social and Education Sector, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- An internationally recognised national or foreign academic degree* (at least equivalent to a bachelor’s degree)
The subject relevance refers to the completion of teaching content on quantitative and/or qualitative methods covering at least 3 ECTS.
OR
- Higher education entrance qualification PLUS relevant work experience (at least 3 years)
The leader of certificate programme decides on the suitability and relevance of the professional experience.
Access to the admissions procedure may also be granted in individual cases if proof of one of the two options mentioned cannot yet be provided in full at this point in time, but it is foreseeable that the conditions for admission will be fulfilled at the time the certificate programme for further education begins.

To be admitted to the certificate programme NPO Management Basic, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- General university entrance qualification, attested by
- an Austrian university entrance certificate or a general university entrance qualification certificate
- a corresponding university entrance examination certificate
- a foreign certificate equivalent to one of these Austrian certificates
- a certificate of completion of at least three years of study at a recognised national or foreign post-secondary educational institution
OR
- An appropriate professional qualification.
The mangement of certificate programme decides on the suitability and relevance of the professional experience.
- Furthermore, the programme is target group-specific, i.e. a professional position as a Red Cross manager is also a prerequisite for entry.

Prerequisite for the admission is
- a completed study (at least Bachelor level)
AND/OR
- relevant professional experience.
In individual cases, the programme director decides on admission on the basis of your application and documents. In the case of a large number of applications, the programme director reserves the right to hold a qualifying interview.
