Artificial Intelligence in Nursing and Care Facilities—A Look at Real-World Applications
The use of artificial intelligence (AI) in nursing care was the central topic of a fascinating guest lecture by Dr. Rainer Planinc, CEO and co-founder of cogvisAI. As part of the guest lecture series marking the 10th anniversary of the bachelor’s degree program in Aging Services Management, he spoke on November 27 about practical applications of AI in nursing care and the associated ethical issues.
In his guest lecture, delivered to mark the program’s anniversary, Dr. Rainer Planinc, CEO and co-founder ofcogvisAI Technologie, offered fascinating insights into the opportunities that AI is already creating in nursing and care facilities today.
“The use of AI in care brings about not only technological changes but also societal ones. It is important to us to provide our students—as well as anyone interested in health sciences—with a deep understanding of both the potential and the ethical challenges,” emphasizedMMag.a Tanja Adamcik, program director of the bachelor’s programin Aging Services Management.
And many interested individuals took advantage of this opportunity. The online event was very well attended, with participants from a variety of backgrounds: students, graduates, faculty members, FERNFH staff, and several interested individuals from outside the Ferdinand Porsche FERNFH. This demonstrates the great interest in this forward-looking topic.
New Digital Challenges in Practice: AI in Everyday Nursing Care
The guest speaker placed particular emphasis on practical experiences with assistive technologies that can ease the burden on caregivers in their daily work and improve the quality of life for older adults. Dr. Planinc also addressed the key challenges associated with the introduction of such technologies, particularly ethical issues and the protection of the privacy of those receiving care.
Using a specific product as an example, the presentation demonstrated what the development and implementation of such technologies look like in practice and the challenges developers face. The concluding Q&A session once again highlighted the high level of interest in and the relevance of the topic. It also became clear that AI is not only becoming increasingly important in technical industries but is also a key issue for the future of the healthcare sector.
New Technologies: Data Protection to Build Trust
In sensitive fields such as healthcare, it is essential to gain the trust of patients and healthcare staff in the technology being used. Dr. Planinc demonstrated how digital solutions can be designed from the outset to meet the highest standards of data protection. He also highlighted future trends and developments that have the potential to transform the healthcare sector in a sustainable way.
