February 22, 2025

Ferdinand Porsche FERNFH is consistently pursuing a path of individualization: With the revision of the curriculum for the bachelor’s program in Aging Services Management (ASBA), all degree programs now offer flexible options for tailoring their course plans.

Elective courses, personalized curricula, and micro-credentials allow you to tailor your studies to your interests and career goals. In this way, FERNFH responds to the growing demands of a dynamic job market and offers modern, needs-based educational pathways.

Personalized Study Paths at FERNFH – More Flexibility for Individual Career Paths

In recent years, FERNFH has consistently tailored its degree programs to individual needs and now offers students in all programs a wide range of options for flexibly structuring their studies. Electives, personalized curricula, and micro-credentials ensure a customized academic education that is optimally aligned with personal career goals.

FERNFH's degree programsare based on amodular structure that gives you the freedom to tailor your studies to your individual needs:

  • Core Curriculum– provides students with the essential subject-specific competencies for their respective degree program and accounts for at least 50% of the total ECTS credits.
  • Elective Course Curriculum– allows for targeted specialization in specific subject areas and can account for up to 40% of the total ECTS credits.
  • Individual Curriculum– offers students the opportunity to earn up to 10% of their ECTS credits from other degree programs or external universities.

One example of the consistent implementation of this individualization is the bachelor’s degree program inAging Services Management (ASBA). Here, too, the elective structure has now been implemented—starting in the 2025–26 academic year, ASBA students will be able to choose from three specializations:“Aging, Disability, and Mental Health,” “HR Management and Ethics, and“Dying and Death in the Context of Aging.” These specializations provide you with practical preparation for specific career fields.

Micro-credentials as a logical step in individual professional development

In addition to further expanding the level of customization within its degree programs, Ferdinand Porsche FERNFH is focusing onmicro-credentials (MCs)—compact continuing education modules designed to teach specific skills. They are suitable both for students who wish to expand their knowledge and for anyone interested in continuing education who wants to learn flexibly without having to complete an entire degree program.

The range of micro-credentials is growing steadily. Currently, nearly 40 of these continuing education modules are already part of the continuing education portfolio of Austria’s only federally funded distance-learning university of applied sciences. Prof. (FH) DI Dr. Martin Staudinger, Chair of the FERNFH Faculty, emphasizes that micro-credentials consistently expand and complement the path toward individualization: “At FERNFH, we are convinced that designing learning paths and issuing micro-credentials provide excellent support for flexible and personalized approaches to qualifications and study programs. In addition to the existing flexibility in terms of location and time that distance learning offers, we believe that flexibility in terms of ‘granularity’ is an important next step.”

Future-oriented education is tailored to individual needs and practical

Through the consistent development of personalized study models and flexible continuing education programs, FERNFH is setting new standards for needs-based academic education. Students and those interested in continuing education benefit from maximum flexibility—perfectly tailored to the demands of a dynamic professional world.
