Launch of the CoClimA project at FERNFH
The new CoClimA research project at FERNFH focuses on promoting climate-friendly behavior and will run from October 2024 to September 2027.
The new CoClimA research project, funded by theLower Austrian Research Funding Agency (GFF NÖ; project number: FTI23-C-004), focuses on promoting climate-friendly behavior. Members of existing regional organizations (such as sports clubs, churches, etc.) will become “citizen scientists.” These citizens actively participate in the research process and are expected to promote climate-friendly behavior in the region through various interventions.
The project will show whether this civic engagement actually translates into changed social norms and sustainable behaviors in the community. How do regional social norms affect climate-friendly behavior, the development of regional norms, and the spread of behavioral changes within the regional system? This question is central to the “CoClimA” project.

The Next Steps
Together with Project Manager PDinMag.aDr.inEva Hofmann, Principal Investigator, Prof.in (FH) Mag.aDr.inKarin Waldherr, Director of the Institute for Health Sciences; project team member Pia Kristina Potoschnig, BA MA; and project assistant Sonja Wirgler, the project will begin in October 2024 and run through September 2027.
At the start of the project, the primary focus will be on identifying social groups—that is, existing local organizations (such as the Evangelical Church in Bruck an der Leitha)—as potential participating organizations and selecting them based on predefined criteria.
