Change at the Helm of the IT Master's Program – New Direction for the Program

Martin Setnicka, BA, MA, MSc, PhD, will assume the directorship of the Master’s program in Information Technology at Ferdinand Porsche FERNFH on October 16, 2024. He succeeds Peter Völkl, BA, MA, MSc.

Martin Setnicka, BA, MA, MSc, PhD, an experienced program director, will take over as director ofthe Master’s program in Information Technology in mid-October. He succeeds Peter Völkl, BA, MA, MSc, who, after more than eight years, is moving on to a new, high-responsibility role outside the higher education sector.

Setnicka emphasizes that it is an honor for him to take over as director of the master’s program. He sees it as his mission to further develop the program and provide new impetus.“My predecessor has laid a strong foundation on which we can build to continue breaking new ground,”says Setnicka. His goal is to keep the program aligned with the latest technological developments and to equip students with the skills they need to succeed in a dynamic IT world.

The new program director also has clear plans for the future: He wants to continuously adapt the program to the changing demands of the workforce, while placing an emphasis on resilience and adaptability.“Our graduates should be able to respond flexibly to rapid technological and societal changes and develop innovative solutions,”explains Setnicka. 

A master's program at the cutting edge

Themaster’s program in Information Technologylaunched in the fall of 2024 at Ferdinand Porsche FERNFH and is an evolution of the master’s program in Business Informatics. The newly designed program offersspecialized and practice-oriented trainingwith five forward-looking areas of specialization. Students can choose betweenData Science & AI, Web Software Engineering, IT Security, E-Commerce, and Business Informaticsto expand their expertise in a targeted manner. With numerous elective and customized courses, the master’s program allows students to flexibly and individually tailor their own skill set. As a part-time distance learning program, the Master’s degree is particularly aimed at those who wish to pursue further qualifications while working in the IT sector.
