Compliance status

Due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below, this website is partially compliant with conformance level AA of the “Web Content Accessibility Guidelines – WCAG 2.1“.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is not accessible for the following reasons:

a. Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

Text and background colours derived from our corporate identity guidelines only partially achieve the required colour contrast. We aim to increase the colour contrast as far as possible in the course of the next website relaunch.

PDF and Office documents provided are only partially accessible. We intend to improve this through standardised document creation and targeted staff training.

Some web pages contain links with identical link text that lead to different destinations. We plan to revise the link texts in the content of the affected pages so that new and updated pages meet this success criterion.

Some non-decorative images in content published before 23 September 2019 lack alternative text, so this information is not accessible to screen reader users. As a result, WCAG success criterion 1.1.1 (Non-text Content) is not met. We are working to add alternative text to all non-decorative images so that our pages meet this success criterion.

b. Disproportionate burden

Most of our videos are hosted and published on YouTube and Vimeo. It is not possible to provide the required audio descriptions for some of these videos. As a result, WCAG success criterion 1.2.5 (Audio Description (Prerecorded)) is not met. We consider that remedying this would constitute a disproportionate burden within the meaning of the accessibility regulations.

We plan to provide suitable alternatives for new content, provided this does not constitute a disproportionate burden. For older content that is no longer updated, an alternative will only be provided on request.

Some videos lack subtitles, meaning the spoken content is not available to deaf users. As a result, WCAG success criterion 1.2.2 (Captions (Prerecorded)) is not met. New videos will be published with subtitles.

c. Content not within the scope of the applicable legislation

Text alternatives for video and audio media published before 23 September 2020.

Live, time-based media such as video and audio media. Online maps and mapping services, provided that essential information for maps intended for navigation is made available digitally in an accessible manner.

Third-party content that is outside the control of the FERNFH Distance-Learning University of Applied Sciences is exempt from Directive (EU) 2016/2102. No statement can be made regarding the compliance of this content with accessibility regulations.

Preparation of this accessibility statement

This statement was prepared on 22.09.2020.

The website is checked for compliance with the WCAG 2.1 guidelines through self-assessment by the FERNFH Distance-Learning University of Applied Sciences and, where appropriate, together with external experts. The content of a selection of pages is checked (home page, a degree programme page, a continuing education programme page, a news page, an event page, the search function, the search results and a page with various content types such as text, images and video).

Enforcement procedure

If you are not satisfied with the response received via the contact option above, you can submit an appeal to the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG). The FFG accepts appeals electronically via its contact form.

www.ffg.at/form/kontaktformular-beschwerdestelle

The FFG examines these appeals to determine whether they relate to breaches of the provisions of the Web Accessibility Act, in particular shortcomings in compliance with the accessibility requirements, by the federal government or an institution attributable to it.

If the appeal is justified, the FFG must issue recommendations to the federal government or the legal entities concerned and propose measures to remedy the shortcomings identified.
